Local Liberals help to elect first female Premier

More than 20 local Liberals were at the Ontario Liberal Party Leadership Convention in Toronto and proudly helped elect Ontario's first female Premier. "This was truly an historic day and an exciting time for Ontario," said Keith Pacey, President of the Nipissing Provincial Liberal Association.


"Kathleen Wynne is an outstanding person, someone who will actively listen in order to hear and understand the concerns of the people of Ontario," Pacey added.


Premier-designate Wynne has always had a strong interest in the concerns of the North and Nipissing. "She has visited this area on a number of occasions, including just two weeks ago when she met with local supporters and also with our Mayor and representatives of the Chamber of Commerce," Pacey said.


At a media conference held in Toronto Sunday morning, Premier-designate Wynne reaffirmed that the Legislature would start up again on February 19. She also announced that she has asked her friend and former colleague, Monique Smith, former Nipissing MPP, to lead the Transition Team that will see Ms Wynne officially become Ontario's first female Premier.


"We are so proud that our new leader has chosen someone from the North and from Nipissing to head this very important team”, said Pacey. Monique Smith served the people of Nipissing and Ontario not only as our MPP from 2003 until 2011, but also as the Minister of Revenue, the Minister of Tourism and the Government House Leader.


“By bringing Monique into this position, our new Premier has ensured that the voice of Northern Ontario will be heard as she begins to move Ontario forward," concluded Pacey.
