Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli speaks at an NOHFC funding announcement.

Over $1.1 million through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) has helped fund 47 job placement opportunities in Nipissing, MPP Vic Fedeli announced on Friday.

Fedeli says the money will help businesses expand operations and develop Northern Ontario’s workforce.

“Our government is helping businesses harness local talent, with targeted investments that create more opportunities for people to gain essential skills and build meaningful careers,” he says. “This funding will help address the shortage of skilled workers in the North and will ensure our local businesses’ continued viability, growth and success.”

The Ontario government is supporting local internships through the NOHFC’s People and Talent Program. The program supports a wide variety of internships, including skilled trades, and addresses the unique needs of other in-demand jobs. Program candidates include new entrants into the workforce, those transitioning to a new career, the unemployed and the underemployed.

CTS Canadian Career College hosted Friday's event and is receiving $37,000 to hire a technical support representative intern and a human resources generalist intern. “NOHFC funding has had a profound impact within our organization by allowing us to take a calculated risk for expansion and bring in strong candidates to develop and improve the
company’s workforce." says Jason Portugues, executive director of operations.

The North Bay Regional Health Centre Foundation will benefit from $35,000 in NOHFC funding to hire a communications and creative assistant.

“North Bay Regional Health Centre Foundation is grateful for this funding that allows us to develop engaging communications and marketing content and share incredible patient and family stories about the compassionate care received at our hospital while promoting all of the ways our community can be involved with ensuring we have the best possible care close to home," says Tammy Morison, president/CEO.

The Labour Market Group is receiving $35,000 to hire a communications and media relations intern. “The Labour Market Group has been a longstanding supporter of the NOHFC Internship program," says Stacie Fiddler, LMG's director. "Our small not-for-profit organization has benefitted greatly from many young individuals who have brought with them such creativity and skilled talents. Several of our previous interns have gone on to gain sustainable employment in our region, and we are extremely proud to have provided them with a foundation for a successful career in the North.”

The NOHFC is also providing the Granite Club with $34,000 to hire a marketing and events coordinator. "I'm looking forward to this opportunity to work in the community to promote curling, tennis, pickleball and special events at the Granite Club. As a recent Business Administration graduate from Nipissing University, I'm eager to apply my knowledge and learn more about this industry," shares Rachel Monahan, NOHFC intern.

Brenda McLay, of Near North Laboratories Inc. is thankful for the $19,000 from NOHFC to hire a lab analyst. “Participation in the NOHFC Internship program has allowed us to find, onboard, train and retain individuals into skilled laboratory positions, resulting in a stronger and expanded laboratory team.”
