Local fitness centres are changing their programming or shutting down this week in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The North Bay YMCA is cutting off all its Child Care, Before & After School programs along with all the March Break Camps.

"In an abundance of caution we have cancelled all of our March Break Camps," the YMCA North Bay website stated adding that all refunds will be provided.

As of Saturday night's latest update, the fitness centre remains open to members only who will have to fill out a screening protocol before entering the gym.

"The Aquatics Centre will remain open, and will be limiting the number of participants that can be in those centres at any one time," the YMCA website states.

"The pool will be open to the public as this is also a municipal pool."

GoodLife will continue to pay its staff for the next two weeks despite the closure.

"All member payments are being suspended as of Tuesday, March 17 and any paid-in-full memberships will be put on freeze until further notice and expiry dates will be extended accordingly," the North Bay GoodLife Fitness Facebook page states.

The Fit4Less facility in Northgate Shopping Centre is also shutting down as part of the franchise's new national protocol.

"As the virus continues to spread in communities across Canada, we have made the difficult but important decision to close all Fit4Less clubs across Canada effective Monday, March 16."

The 22 Wing Fitness and Wellness Centre officially announced it was reducing services on Sunday until further notice.

"The facility will only be available to members and will not be taking any drop-ins from the general public," Lindsay Seguin, Community/Recreation coordinator at the facility stated via an email to BayToday on the weekend.
