Local fire departments get COVID funding

The Ontario Government  will spend $71,400.00 to help Fire Services in Nipissing address the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The funding will enhance fire safety training and support safety inspection programs to ensure compliance with the Ontario Fire Code says a news release from MPP Vic Fedeli.

“This new investment will enhance fire safety in Nipissing by providing the technology and equipment needed to support training and fire inspections during these unprecedented times," said fedeli.

Local Fire Services receiving funding includes:

  • $17,300 for the North Bay Fire & Emergency Services
  • $8,100 for the West Nipissing Fire & Emergency Services
  • $5,700 for the East Ferris Fire Department
  • $5,500 for the Callander Fire & Emergency Services
  • $5,400 for the Powassan Fire Department
  • $5,000 for the Bonfield Township Fire Department
  • $5,000 for the Township of Nipissing Fire Department
  • $5,000 for the Mattawa Town Fire Department
  • $4,900 for the Chisholm Township Fire Department
  • $4,800 for the Papineau-Cameron Township Fire Department
  • $4,700 for the Calvin Township Fire Department

COVID-19 has created risks and unprecedented challenges for fire departments as they conduct training and fire safety inspections.

"This one-time funding will enhance in-person, and online educational instruction needs by increasing access to additional training. It will also support updates to specialized critical equipment; such as high-speed internet, to enhance virtual training and enable remote options to support fire safety and compliance with Ontario's Fire Code while minimizing exposure to the virus," concluded Fedeli.
