We all knew it was a great market, now the province knows it too.

The North Bay Farmers’ Market is the inaugural recipient of the "Farmers’ Market Ontario’s Award of Excellence, Market of the year," for 2018.

This award is given by Farmers’ Market Ontario in recognition of an Exemplary Farmers’ Market that has added value to their community and the Ontario Farmers’ Market sector, says a news release.

Farmers’ Market Ontario is the voice of Ontario’s 180 farmers' markets throughout the province in fostering and maintaining traditions, commitment to leadership, development, management, and promotion.

The North Bay Farmers’ Market began in 2001 has grown to be one of the busiest farmers' markets in northern Ontario with an average of 100 Vendors per year.

There has also been an expansion from the very busy Saturday market both in the summer and winter, to the addition of the Wednesday market.

Board members of the North Bay Farmers’ Market will be at the Ontario Fruit and Vegetable Convention in Niagara Falls next week to receive the award.

There will be a presentation at the North Bay Mall’s Winter Farmers’ Market on Saturday, February 23, at 9:45 a.m. to share this accomplishment with the public.
