With churches shuttered across the world since mid- March, this event is an initial step towards the re-opening of our local churches

As guidelines continue to be eased, local churches are starting to ramp up services.

The first "almost-church-opening" in the area will take place in Powassan this weekend.

Local Catholics are invited to mark the feast of Pentecost with a prayer vigil in the parking lot at St. Joseph's Church on 120 Memorial Park Drive West in Powassan this Saturday, May 30, from 5-6 p.m.

Pastor Father Eric Mason will be leading Vespers and then Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament in the parking lot, with participants observing physical distancing and remaining in their cars for the duration. Prayers can be printed or downloaded in advance from the parish website.

"Pentecost", meaning "fiftieth"  is the 50th day after Easter, and an important date in the church calendar.  Christians celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles, and the start of the Catholic church.
