MONCTON - Cindy Russell admits that she encountered some raised eyebrows and received some skeptical looks when she told family and friends in North Bay, Ont. that she was leaving her career as a public health professional to become a PropertyGuys.com franchise owner. But she doesn’t think the career change was much of a stretch.

“I have moved from helping people increase control over their health to helping people take control of the largest financial transaction of their lives and we’re saving them tens of thousands of dollars,” says Russell. “It is very rewarding to hear our clients discuss what they will do with the money they save. They are always extremely grateful.”

In less than six months, 25 homes have sold through her franchise, some in as few as nine days. And she has saved her clients over $300,000 in commissions. Some of those homeowners have been very confident. Others were a little nervous. “Our job is to support them through the process by giving them all the tools, resources and support they need,” Russell adds. “Doing it yourself is not a complicated process and when your home sells you really do experience a great sense of satisfaction and pride.”

Russell has always had an entrepreneurial streak in her and started a part-time consulting business 10 years ago while working full-time in public health. She discovered PropertyGuys.com about a year ago while traveling in eastern Canada and she was quickly sold on the concept.

“I was impressed with the company’s ethical business practices and the fact that they are truly the largest and most respected private sales network in Canada,” Russell adds. “The company has developed a system that works and saves people thousands of dollars.”

In fact, the company has developed processes and business systems that allow Russell to manage her franchise from a distance. She and her husband recently moved to Nova Scotia so he could pursue a business opportunity, but she has an office and trained staff in North Bay. They manage the franchise on a day-to-day basis while she supervises from her Nova Scotia home and spends about one week per month on site in North Bay...
