Harriet Madigan says part of being healthy is not just looking after yourself but looking after others too.
Madigan, who is with Living Fit Inside and Out in North Bay, believes their donation to the Gathering Place soup kitchen is a fine example of that.
The local organization which promotes healthy living for mature women, raised $1253 for the Gathering Place simply through a Christmas Party.
Madigan says prior to COVID-19 they were able to raise close to $10,000 per year for various local charities.
"The Gathering Place was always a recipient and with COVID-19 there was no way we could fundraise things the way we did, and this year we had a Christmas party and those girls decided to do a fundraiser with gift bags and a silent auction," said Madigan.
Dennis Chippa, executive director of The Gathering Place, says the organization's cheque presentation on Monday morning was a pleasant holiday surprise.
"It absolutely helps to have community leaders like Living Fit donate to us. It will certainly help at an incredibly busy and demanding time of the year," says Chippa.
