Premier Doug Ford announced today that elementary students will return to class five days a week, five hours a day once school begins Sept. 8.
Safety protocols will include mandatory masks for staff and students, limited physical contact, frequent cleaning of buses and facilities, and additional health and safety training.
Most secondary students will return under an 'adapted' model, said Stephen Lecce, Minister of Education. Groups of 15 students will alternate between in-person and online instruction. Those schools with lower risk profiles will return to full classes five days a week.
Premier Doug Ford is slated to hold a press conference at 1 p.m. in Whitby today and is expected to announce plans for reopening schools in September.
He will be joined by Christine Elliott, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health; Stephen Lecce, Minister of Education; and Dr. Barbara Yaffe, Associate Chief Medical Officer of Health, to make the announcement.
