A fallen tree had over 1,300 Hydro One customers in the Golden Valley area scrambling for flashlights and candles last night.

Hydro One spokesperson Daffyd Roderick says residents in the Blair, Hardy, Machar, McConkey, Mills East and Wilson townships were without electricity for about four hours.

“The call came in at about 9:15 pm that people in the Nipissing area were experiencing an outage.” he said.

A tree had fallen on a three phase line near the Golden Valley distribution station, knocking out power. A repair crew cleared the tree away and had everyone back up on line at about 1:20 am this morning.

Roderick says there were reports of high winds blowing through the outage area on Tuesday which may have led to the tree coming down. Power outages were also reported in the Grey Bruce and Huntsville areas through Monday and Tuesday due to high winds.
