The North East Local Health Integration Network (LHIN)  says in a news release that it will publish its regional health care plan for 2016-2019 early in the new year.

It says the plan will include three priorities to improve health care for Northerners:

  • Improve Access and Wait Times
  • Enhance Care Coordination
  • Strengthen System Sustainability

“Health care is people care and that’s exactly where we are focusing our LHIN efforts in 2016 – helping Northerners get the care they need faster, ensuring  there is better coordination between the organizations providing the care, and making sure our Northeastern Ontario health care system can meet Northerner’s needs today and tomorrow,” said Louise Paquette, CEO, North East LHIN.

Over the past three years, the North East LHIN has spoken directly with thousands of Northerners, asking what they need to live healthy and well in Northeastern Ontario.  The LHIN has also heard from more than 2,000 Northerners responding to two extensive surveys.

As part of its new strategic plan, the North East LHIN will focus on eight areas of care to help Northerners stay healthy, get better and manage their care, including:  primary and specialty care, acute care, home and community, mental health and addictions, rehabilitative care, long-term care and palliative care.  As heard through ongoing engagements --technology, transportation, housing, partnerships and education – will play a key role moving forward, the release adds.
