Hundreds of people from Nipissing’s Francophone community gathered at Memorial Gardens Sunday to officially open the 44th Annual Les Compagnons “Le Carnaval”.

The event ran for just over an hour-and-a-half and featured speeches by committee members and dignitaries, the arrival of Bonhomme, and a show featuring the talents of area Francophone youth. The crowd then made their way over to at Paroisse St. Vincent de Paul where a traditional Carnaval Supper was served.

The festivities continue throughout the week and include; a salute to the Arts and a French language movie at the Capitol Centre, performances for school aged kids at the Capitol Centre, Snow Sculptures at area French schools, Games Night, and community dances.

Event programs are available at Caisse Populaire, area French schools and in the lobby during all events.

Closing ceremonies will be at Les Compagnons on Sunday February 18th with the grand finale of Bonhomme being unmasked.
