Bids to finish the Lakeshore Drive - Pinewood Park sewer extension have come in so high, the city will have to delay other capital projects to pay for it.

"It's 1.75 million more than we were expecting," Chair of Engineering and Works Tanya Vrebosch told BayToday.

Bids ranged from 3.6 to 7.3 million.

City staff will now review capital projects that were slated for this summer and look at deferring them.

"It doesn't help that we just cut $2.7 million out of the capital budget. A report will go to council with the tender and we'll be given options on what can be deferred and where we are going to get the money to complete the project", explained Vrebosch.

Last fall the original contractor, MX Constructors of Sturgeon Falls and the city, mutually agreed to cancel the contract and go separate ways.

“Basically there have just been too many complications,” MX President Steve Morrison told BayToday at the time.

“It had nothing to do with the progress, it had to do with the different issues that were occurring onsite.”

The water problems were one of those bigger issues, caused by the high water table.

Morrison was happy to stop working on the project.

“As far as I’m concerned,” he said with a smile, “the job is cursed”.
