Nipissing Lakers men's hockey head coach Mike McParland was selected as the recipient of the 2023 OHF Bill Richmond Memorial Award, being nominated by Ted Zajac, Nipissing University announced on Thursday.

In 1996, the OHF established the Bill Richmond Memorial Award to recognize outstanding achievement and involvement in hockey development within the Branch. For over 20 years, Mr. Richmond was a leader in the development and delivery of the National Coaches Certification Program (NCCP).

He passed away suddenly in 1995 but left a legacy of hard work and commitment to the development of the game in our Branch.

"McParland's contributions have had a direct positive impact on many participants that have passed through the program over the years," a Nipissing Lakers Athletics release stated.

McParland has been the lone coach of the Lakers varsity men's hockey program which hit the ice for the first time in the fall of 2009.

The Lakers men's bench boss was named the OUA East Division coach of the year in 2022.
