On Saturday, November 12, 2022, Lakers Break the Ice on Mental Health returns after a two-year hiatus.

Lakers Break the Ice on Mental Health is teaming up with NU Listens, the North Bay Regional Health Centre Foundation and the Nipissing Lakers varsity hockey teams to raise funds and awareness for mental health and emotional wellness.

The Nipissing Lakers women’s hockey team will break the ice at 5 p.m. against the Laurier Golden Hawks followed by the men’s team battling the Carleton Ravens at 7:30 p.m. at Memorial Gardens.

The pandemic has triggered a 25% increase in depression and anxiety (World Health Organization, 2022). This inspired the Nipissing University Sport’s Marketing class to leverage sport to help create awareness, support conversations, and transform mental health by encouraging people to talk openly about mental illness and to ask for help when needed.

“Getting help is not a straight line,” states Malory Dominico of the Lakers women’s hockey team.

"You will have ups and downs but, in the end, you will come out stronger than before.”

Join us for an action-packed evening of exciting varsity hockey, strong community spirit and entertaining fundraising for the North Bay Regional Health Centre & NU Listens. Tickets can be purchased at the Memorial Gardens box office or from the North Bay Battalion website
