A North Bay area family has recognized the efforts of a few good nurses and hospital staff within the North Bay Regional Health Centre's Labour and Delivery team and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Golden Heart Awards were presented to Shannon Lebreux, RN, Keri Kittmer, RN, Amanda Poeta, RN, Connor Marsden, RN, Jessica Luckett, RN, from Labour & Delivery. As well as Britny Cousineau, RN, Donna Kirkland, RN, Katelyn Dupras, RN, and Megan Robitaille, RN from NICU for the shared impact they had on a patient and family experience.

“Thank you to our Labour and Delivery team including Shannon, who answered all of my questions and concerns at the pre-admission clinic," stated the grateful family.

"Keri Kittmer, who triaged me after my water unexpectedly, broke at home. Amanda Poeta, who supported me through my induction. Connor Marsden, who supported me through birth, and Jessica Luckett, who supported myself, baby, and my husband when she needed to stay in the NICU to learn how to eat and we just wanted her home. You were all incredibly patient, kind, and compassionate despite having a very busy unit," the new mother continued.

The grateful family appreciated the help they received in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).

"Thank you to our team in the NICU including Britny Cousineau, Donna Kelly, Katelyn Dupras, and Megan Robitaille, who supported us and our baby through a brief stay in the NICU as she learned how to eat.

"An especially big thank you to Donna who supported us through my own health concerns and helped get our baby into the 'Care by Parent Room' during the final night of her stay. Even though she wasn't sick, this was an incredibly stressful time for us as we just wanted her home. Your kindness, knowledge, and clear passion for your work helped us a great deal through this trying time.”

Hospital officials say these exceptional staff went above and beyond for a patient and their family at NBRHC, inspiring the family to make a Grateful Family donation to the Foundation.

The Golden Heart Award is given through the Grateful Family donation where a staff member, physician, volunteer or department is recognized by a patient or a patient's family.

Those honoured through the donation are recognized at staff meetings through the hospital's social media, and are awarded a golden heart badge for their name tag.
