Kitchen knife and hammer used in weekend assaults

Two face 'assault with a weapon' charges

A kitchen knife, a hammer and slashed tires were all part of Saturday night fracas.

Police say that on Saturday, at about 7:30 p.m., an argument between two women, who know each other, turned violent.

As one was leaving the house, she threatened a second woman with a kitchen knife.

The fight continued outside, at which time, the second woman struck the first with a hammer. One woman is also accused of slashing the tires of the other's vehicle before she left for a nearby gas station.

Both paramedics and police were called.

Both woman were injured, with one being taken to hospital by ambulance.

Police seized a hammer and a kitchen knife as evidence.

North Bay Police arrested and charged:

Michele Lindsey Hughes, age 27, of North Bay with:

  • One count of assault with a weapon;
  • One count of uttering threats; and
  • One count of mischief under $5,000.

Nadine Melvaer, age 26, of North Bay with:

  • One count of assault with a weapon.

Both women were later released from custody.

Melvaer is scheduled to appear in court on February 28th, while Hughes is scheduled to appear on March 14th.
