Incumbent councillor Mark King has filed his nomination papers for the October 22nd municipal election.

"This city needs to be run more like a business," said King, owner of industrial equipment supplier H. Freeman and Co.

"Our growth needs to target a return on investment for city taxpayers, and city council needs to build strong community partnerships to make North Bay the best it can be.”

King points to the operation of the District of Nipissing Social Services Administration Board (DNSSAB), which he chaired as part of his first-term city council portfolio.

"DNSSAB reduced structural welfare in Nipissing by 6.5 percent last year," said King in a release Thursday morning.

"Training partnerships with the Chamber of Commerce and Canadore College proved very successful in helping get people back to work. It was the biggest success story of its kind in the entire North.

"Politicians can't create jobs. But one of our most important roles as city councillors should be to identify the expertise available in our community, and to work with partners on strategies that can grow our local economy and create more employment opportunities.”

As Vice-Chair of the Cassellholme Board, King supports the rebuilding of the long-term care facility.

“We could have the largest senior’s long-term care facility in the region and, having a modern facility, can help drive growth in the community,”  King said.

“Let’s make sure we get our share of the 15,000 new long-term care spaces being promised by the Province.”

King says he also supports improving road infrastructure even if it means diverting money from other projects.

“Strong communities deserve good roads and infrastructure,” he said.

“City Services can be improved by conducting an independent 3rd party value for money review of the city’s books.”

The filing for council quashes the rumours that King was set to take a run at the Mayor's seat.

The incumbent is the 15th person to file North Bay City Council nomination papers for the fall election.

Nominations for council and school board must be filed by 2 p.m. on nomination day, Friday, July 27.
