Joint Force Drug Unit dismantles marihuana grow op in Powassan

Powassan - On June 1st, 2007, members of the Joint Forces Drug Unit which is comprised of the Ontario Provincial Police Drug Enforcement Section, the Ontario Provincial Police North East Region and the North Bay Police Service conducted an investigation of an outdoor marihuana grow operation on crown lands in Blair Township, southwest of Powassan.

Assisted by the O.P.P. Emergency Response Team, Canine Unit and members of the O.P.P. Powassan Detachment, two persons were arrested at the scene. Officers located and seized 429 Cannabis marihuana plants, water pumps and tools.

The potential street value of the seized drugs seized is $429,000.00. One person was charged and released while the other remains in custody pending a bail hearing in North Bay Provincial Court on Monday June 4th 2007.

Daniel Roger CASTONGUAY –DOB: 09Apr75, of Sudbury.

Production of a Controlled Substance, Sec 7(1) Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA). (1 count – Cannabis marihuana).

Possession of a Controlled Substance (Cannabis marihuana) Sec 4(1) CDSA.
Released on a Promise to Appear with conditions. Scheduled to appear in North Bay Provincial Court in July 2007.

Paul Eugene MANITOWABI – DOB: 27Jul75, of no fixed address.

Production of a Controlled Substance, Sec 7(1) Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA). (1 count – Cannabis marihuana).

Held in custody pending a bail hearing in North Bay Provincial Court on Monday June 4th 2007.
