Job fair attracts large crowd

Well over 500 job seekers packed the lobby areas of Memorial Gardens today hoping for tips on improving their job prospects, or even landing employment.

The day-long session showcased over 50 local employers who are looking for workers to fill job vacancies. Employers participating represent a variety a key industry sectors in the community and included financial services, energy and public services. 

Photographer Lindsay Sarazin was busy taking free head shots for people to use with their resumes.

"We tell them how important it is to look professional when looking for a job," he told BayToday.

The Ontario Self Employment Benefit Program booth  will help people start their own business and can extend E.I. benefits by an additional 42 weeks.

Ashley Lang of North Bay puts her name of a list to get more information about financial support for starting her own business. She would like to find something in office administration.

Lee-Anne Lefebvre, Co-Chair of the Employment Services Table stated “This will be a fantastic opportunity for individuals looking to gain employment in the community. This event will allow job seekers to meet employers first-hand to see what vacancies are out there and what type of skills are required to fill them.” 

The Nipissing Employment Services Table is a committee that consists of over 10 community agencies that deliver employment related services in the region.  .
