Federal Nipissing-Timiskaming riding candidates and their representatives met with Chief Returning Officer Jim Mallory at the Elections Canada office this afternoon to validate the numbers from Monday night’s election.

The count as it was filed had Conservative Jay Aspin finishing just 14 votes ahead of Liberal incumbent Anthony Rota.

After reviewing the numbers, it was confirmed there will be a judicial recount.

Mallory will now contact the Superior Court of Justice to start the process of having a judge appointed to start the process of the recount. The process could take a couple of weeks to complete as the judge and lawyers for the parties will review each and every ballot.
