Nathaniel Brubacher as George Bailey and Meg Stokes as Mary star in "It’s a Wonderful Life," directed by Rod Carley, at Trinity United Church, December 6 to 8.

"The beloved holiday classic, comes to captivating life as a live 1940s radio broadcast, to assist with the Trinity United Church roof repairs. Spend a little time in Bedford Falls and be part of the audience at WBFR’s 1946 Christmas Eve presentation of Frank Capra’s holiday film classic," says Carley in a news release.

It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play is exactly what it says it is.

Seven actors, supported by a sound-effects man, deliver the lines of all the characters from the movie, dressed in 1940s fashions, during the golden age of radio. With the help of the director, Rod Carley, this little coterie of actors create an assortment of vivid and fully believable characters — lots of them. Carley also plays, among other characters, Mr. Potter and Joseph, the superintendent of angels says the release.

Marty Brown makes his theatrical debut as Clarence the angel and Uncle Billy. Geoff Richardson juggles Peter Bailey, Harry Bailey, and Ernie the cab driver. Gavin Pigeau brings Sam Wainwright, Bert the cop, and Mr. Gower the druggist, to life. Tracy Sloan-Richardson plays Violet, George’s mother, and George’s daughter Zuzu, to name but a few. John Powers is your host in radio-land, Freddie Filmore.

The HEARTBEAT quartet adds to the nostalgic fun while Chris Mogan underscores the action on piano. Jimmy Craven is the on-stage sound effects artist enhancing the illusion with inventive sound effects.

“This holiday season we take you back to a time when radio dramas brought families together to enjoy a story well-told,” says Carley. “To a time before earbuds and cellphones and podcasts made entertainment a solitary experience. Come together in our community’s living room like the enormous family we are and watch a holiday classic take shape. Live theatre as live theatre, as heartwarming as can be!”
