The Near North Student Robotics Initiative competed in the FIRST Greater Toronto Regional this weekend, making it all the way to the finals. Their robot, R2-T2, was completely redesigned after the Waterloo Regional event and lead to them being picked by the third alliance. After being victorious in the quarter and semi-finals, their alliance went on to compete in the finals, in a best of three match system. After a close victory in the first match, an issue with their alliance lead to a loss in the second match. The third match was very well played by all teams; however, the opposing alliance took first place 97-90. The team performed well in all conditions and was very pleased by their performance at the event. The team has already qualified to go to the Championship in Atlanta by winning the Chairman’s award at the Waterloo Regional.
