North Bay Police continue to investigate the case involving the discovery of of a newborn child's remains Friday in woods just off Minto Road and Laurentian Avenue.

"The autopsy was performed this morning at the hospital for sick children in Toronto and what we are dealing with is a full-term baby boy weighing 8 and a 1/4 pounds and just over 21 inches in length with medium brown hair,” states Sgt. Chuck Seguin.

“We have further physical examinations that are required as well as toxicology."

News of the grisly discovery caught the attention of national news outlets and has been the topic of conversation throughout the community.

"It's really disturbing and sad that someone would be that desperate that they had to leave their child or couldn't take care or their child and had to leave it in the bush,” states Allison Helmer a Canadore Nursing Student from Ottawa that lives in the neighbourhood.

“Or if they were sick and they didn't know what to do and they didn't know where to go, and it's sad that this has to happen in this community."

Police have since lifted the yellow tape from the wooded area but continue the investigation.

"Our investigators are continuing to canvas the neighbourhood speaking to people who reside in the area and use those trails in the area where the baby was found and we ask anyone who has information on this to contact North Bay Police," says Seguin.

North Bay Police Service can be contacted at 497-5555 or Crime Stoppers at 476-8477 / 1-800-222-8477.
