Nipissing University and the department of Gender Equality and Social Justice are pleased to unveil the line-up of events marking International Women’s Week 2011.

Titled, Queering IWW 2011: Reteaching Gender and Sexuality, events take place March 4 – 9.

The showcase event for IWW is on Tuesday, March 8, when the university hosts a movie screening and talk by Sid Jordan Peterson and youth educator Hanna King from the Seattle based activist group Put This On The Map.

Put this on the Map is reteaching gender and sexuality to professionals, such as school administrators, social workers, health care providers and juvenile probation staff. With youth voices at the forefront, the team of educators that comprise the group use dynamic, relevant and informative professional development trainings and workshops to shift the conversation about gender and sexuality. The group created an award-winning 34-minute documentary, Put This on the {MAP} features twenty-six young people in Seattle’s eastside suburbs who, fed up with a lack of queer visibility, weave together a ground-breaking narrative of shifting identities and a quest for social change.

The screening and discussion takes place in the Nipissing University Theatre (F213) at 7 p.m. It is open to the public and is free of charge.
