The Indie movie ‘The Hidden Path’ is using all northern Ontario talent

The local Indie movie ‘The Hidden Path’ goes into pre-production shortly and is looking for some lead parts in the film.

"We’re currently in pre-production and we begin principal photography in July," Producer Sandra Edmunds tells BayToday. "We're hoping to get the word out about the casting call. "We’re seeking emerging talent who are eager to be part of this summer project. It’s going to be exciting."

The actors must be willing to contribute their skills solely for the experience, as no financial compensation is available.

The writer/director, Richard Story, emphasizes, "None of our crew members are being paid either. This is a 'no-budget' movie, essentially a collective endeavour. Actors will receive a screen credit, which can be immensely beneficial for their careers."

Actors will also receive footage for their reels, make industry connections, and, once the film is completed, have the chance to accompany the movie to various film festivals.

A team of aspiring filmmakers, alongside their college film professor, are embarking on a summer production that boasts a cast and crew composed entirely of northern Ontario talent. The independent film is set against the backdrop of northern Ontario, with every aspect of its creation driven by local creatives.

Edmunds describes the film this way.

"At the start of the pandemic a young woman, Sloane, reconnects with her estranged brother, Rivers.  With limited travel options she sets out on a three-day trek, on foot, to visit her brother.  Sloane's journey becomes an eerie and beautiful odyssey through the Northern Canadian wilderness."

Story has written and directed two features and an hour-long sci-fi drama.  He’s a film prof at the local college and is making this indie movie with his film students as crew.

"Our crew members are students but they already have a year of experience on film sets – they’re dedicated, talented, and great to work with.," says Story. "We’re shooting with some cutting-edge gear.  We have an engaging, original script and a clear vision for the movie. At this stage, our focus is on finding the right actors."

Casting Director Rodion Rogachevskyi says there is already a great deal of interest.

"We’ve already conducted two casting sessions. Artists in our region are eager to engage and create. We would love to meet talented individuals from around our area. We have casting sessions scheduled every Saturday for actors interested in auditioning. No prior experience is necessary. You can contact us directly at [email protected]."
