On Saturday, September 22, the Kidney Foundation of Canada hosted it’s Be a Lifesaver Walk for organ donation awareness, for the very first time, here in North Bay. The event was held at Lee Park, with a 4km walk along the Kate Pace Way.

Although the event had a small turnout, with only 18 walkers participating, those highly motivated walkers did manage to collect a very decent amount of money.

In the end, after the final tally was calculated, the inaugural North Bay Walk for organ donation awareness raised $1,892.00 for the Kidney Foundation of Canada, far exceeding the organizers goal.

“I’m thrilled about that amount,” local walk coordinator, Andrew Hopkins said. “Going in, our goal was one thousand dollars, but having almost doubled that, is just fantastic.”

“Its great to see that the community came on board and supported all the walkers in raising such a great amount for our first walk,” Hopkins expressed.

Walk organizers would like to thank all those who walked, volunteered, and donated money, prizes, and food for the event, the first such walk for the Kidney Foundation in North Bay.

Organizers would like to express their thanks to M.P.P. Monique Smith, Deputy Mayor Peter Chirico, and NDP Candidate Henri Giroux, who all took some time out of their busy schedules to show their support and even say a few words before the start of the walk.

The North Bay Be a lifesaver Walk for organ donation awareness would also like to express their many thanks to the following business who supported the walk: Cogeco North Bay News, CKAT, North Bay Skyhawks, SportCheck, Grand & Toy, Pizza Hut, Blockbuster, Ontera, Savage Data Systems, Walmart, No Frills, McDonalds, Country Style, Food Basics, Sobeys, A&P, Algonquin High School, and Canadore College.
