Impaired driver calls cops...on herself

A North Bay woman was arrested for impaired driving Christmas morning after she had called the OPP for help after getting stuck in the snow

A North Bay woman was arrested for impaired driving after she had called the OPP for help after getting stuck in the snow.

The vehicle was found after a search by the North Bay OPP on an unnamed road in French River Township.

It was Christmas day, just after 2 a.m. when police received a call for help from a motorist who said she was unsure of her location but her vehicle was stuck in the snow.

Officers began searching for the vehicle and driver later found in French River Township.

As a result of the investigation the driver, Amy Southwind, a 37-year-old from North Bay was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand
  • Have care or control of vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available

Southwind was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on January 16, 2024. 

The accused was also issued a 90-day driver's licence suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
