If lakes aren’t staked, stay away

“If a lake is not staked, don’t go, if a trail is closed, it’s closed for a reason and just be patient until we can get these things up into perfect condition.”

The North Bay Snowmobile Club says despite more snow and cold it’s still early season conditions.

“Some of the trails you ride on right now are just mint, like midseason conditions but then you go around a corner and there’s an exposed rock or a wet swamp still open or something like that,” said Shawn Flindall, North Bay Snowmobile Club President.

“So there’s great conditions out there but people have to remember that its still early season.”

Flindall says the waterways are still inconsistent in the region, as one sledder north of the city found out.

See that story here: One lucky sledder!

“We’ve got some rivers we still can’t get across and none of the lakes in the area are fully staked yet and that’s just due to inconsistent ice conditions so they are really not safe at this point and until they are actually staked we need people to stay off because it is unsafe conditions,” said Flindall.

“If a lake is not staked, don’t go, if a trail is closed, it’s closed for a reason and just be patient until we can get these things up into perfect condition.”

You can watch the trail maps linked to nbsc.ca and follow the club on facebook for all the latest conditions.
