Now that there is a no-idling by-law in effect throughout the City of North Bay, and residents who disobey it could soon be facing a fine. City Council authorized an application on Monday night to fine residents who idle their vehicles for too long.

Councillor, Sarah Campbell said this by-law was passed to protect the environment, but is really meant for City Staff.

“We’re trying to encourage City Staff through policy to make sure that they’re not running these buses or these vehicles needlessly through winter months,” Campbell explained.

“We have a lot of motor vehicles out there. If they let these things run it’s running up costs, and it’s an air pollution at the same time.”

The maximum a City can fine their residents for this offence is $300. The application sent in by City Council to the Ministry of the Attorney General was to fine $50 each time someone is caught breaking the by-law.
