Cassie Rich is excited about the opportunity in front of her.

The 17-year-old Callander, Ontario native has committed to join the Ryerson Rams Varsity Women’s Hockey team for the upcoming 2018-19 season.

Last year, Rich was a member of the North Bay Midget AA Ice Boltz that played in the Lower Lakes Women’s Hockey League.

“Ryerson University has always caught my interest by their unique campus,” said Rich.

“I cannot wait to move to the city, to start classes and get down to the hard work.”

Rich is excited to play for Lisa Haley in Ryerson as she was part of the coaching staff with the silver medal-winning Canadian Olympic Women’s hockey team in Pyeongchang.

“I look forward to playing for Lisa Haley and taking full advantage of the amazing opportunity I have been given,” said Rich, who played forward for the Ice Boltz team coached by Jayde Wolfe last season.

Rich says she can’t wait to take her game up to the CIS level.

“Stepping into the Old Maple Leaf Gardens and knowing that will be my home for the next upcoming season & hopefully the next five years means the world to me,” said Rich.

“Any hockey player would be more than thrilled to call the Mattamy Athletic Center their home. Everything from the University, facilities, and staff has been beyond my expectations.”
