Today, the Discovery North Bay Museum opened its doors onto another era as they welcomed the community to the launch of their latest exhibit.

“The Ice Age Mammals exhibit has been in the works for two years.” Museum Curator, Lindsey Voisin said, “This exhibit comes to us from the Canadian Museum of Nature. Our board, staff and volunteers are thrilled it is here.”

The interactive exhibit has been on display at the museum since Family Day and has proven to be a tremendous hit with hundreds of patrons of all ages. With a life size replica of a Mastodon skeleton, the largest beaver ever and numerous interesting and informative displays, this exhibit is an amazing glimpse into another time and place.

“WE’ve seen wide eyed stares and looks of amazement from kids of all ages.” said Voisin, “Every visitor leaves knowing they have seen something special.”

On hand for the ribbon cutting were special guests, The Honourable Monique Smith, M.P.P. Nipissing, and City of North Bay Mayor, Al McDonald .

"The museum plays an important role in our community, and this exhibit is one more example of why the Discovery North Bay Museum is known as a destination for residents and visitors alike," said Monique Smith, MPP for Nipissing. "The Ontario government is proud of our continuing support of this facility."

“It is exhibits such as this that speak to the high calibre of work being done at the museum to bring educational, informative and fun displays to our city. ” said Mayor McDonald.

The grand opening and official launch of the exhibit took place today at 4 pm followed by a public open house.

The exhibit, and the rest of the museum, are open to visitors from Tuesday to Friday from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm and Saturday from 10 am to 4pm.

“We welcome everyone to the museum to experience first hand an exhibit that has really been millennia in the making.” said Voisin.
