Hwy 17 collision east of Mattawa claims one life

North Bay OPP is currently investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision on Highway 17, east of Mattawa which occurred on Sunday, September 23rd, 2007.

Police, Ambulance and Fire were dispatched at approximately 1:40 p.m. yesterday afternoon (Sunday, September 23rd, 2007) to a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 17, east of Mattawa, Ontario. The vehicle was westbound when it left the road, entered the ditch, rolled over several times before coming to rest against some rocks. The female driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The male passenger suffered minor injuries while their 2 year old daughter escaped without injury.

The driver was identified as 30 year old Cristina Bercea of Montreal, Quebec.

OPP North East Region Technical Traffic Investigators and the Forensic Identification Unit are assisting investigators with the investigation which is still ongoing.
