Members of the Bracebridge Ontario Provincial Police are currently investigating a fatal two-vehicle collision that has left five people dead.
OPP officers responded to the crash on Hwy 11 near Luigi Rd in Gravenhurst shortly after 4 p.m. today.
The investigation determined that the driver of a Buick Century was travelling southbound in the northbound passing lane and collided head-on with a northbound Honda CRV. Both vehicles were demolished and there were no survivors.
The lone driver of the Buick and four occupants in the Honda were pronounced dead on the scene.
A dog was also found dead in the Buick.
The highway's northbound lane was closed for approximately 3 ½ hours and re-opened at 7:35 pm.
Identification of the victims is pending further investigation and notification of the next-of-kin.
No details of where the deceased were from have been released.
