Humane Society On The Hunt For New Manager

The North Bay and District Humane Society is on the hunt for a new manager as Steve Lamb has taken a new career path and joined the staff at AIDS Committee of North Bay and Area.

Lamb’s agency change was unveiled during the staff introduction portion at the recent annual general meeting for the committee, and Lamb says he is happy to have made the move.

“This is a huge change for me, but I do have a long background with the AIDS Committee. I lost a brother to AIDS in 1991, and got involved with the committee at that time,” he says.

“I went on to become a volunteer, then a board member and was chair of the board at one time. When I saw the position advertised I just thought it would be a very interesting change.”

Lamb says the change from the daily business of the Humane Society to that of the AIDS Committee, is not as far a stretch as one might think.

“They're great bunch at the AIDS Committee, they’ve welcomed me with open arms and made me feel really comfortable. Yes, we deal with animals at the other place but animals have an owner attached to them, so I’m definitely used to dealing with people.”

Lamb says although his departure was a quick one, he is confident the Humane Society will continue to serve the community one hundred percent under the watch of Interim Manager, Murray Whitman.

“I gave as much notice as I was able to. They were anxious to get me over at the new place,” he explains.

“We have a former board member who is in there as acting Executive Director until they hire the new person.”
