An Ottawa man faces human trafficking charges after a disturbance Friday, November 1 at a motel on Lakeshore Drive in North Bay.

Police say a man and a woman had an argument that turned violent. Police were called and the investigation revealed the woman was an escort involved in a working relationship with the man.

He was located at the motel and arrested. Cash was seized from him at the time of his arrest.

Gemie Muya, 26, of Ottawa is charged with;

  • Trafficking in persons
  • Material benefit resulting from trafficking in persons
  • Assault
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000

Muya remains in custody pending a bail hearing.
