OJIBWAYS OF GARDEN RIVER FN - Grand Council Chief Patrick Madahbee and Chiefs from 41 Anishinabek communities will be at the Anishinabek Nation Special Chiefs Assembly this week in Garden River First Nation on Tuesday, November 24.
High on the agenda will be discussion of the unilateral imposition of a proposed Ontario-Canada Harmonized Sales Tax (HST), the Anishinabek Nation Citizenship and Child Welfare Laws, and the proposed Lake Huron Treaty Commission.
Ontario and the Anishinabek Nation will sign a Memorandum of Understanding on education related to self-government negotiations.

The Anishinabek Nation established the Union of Ontario Indians as its secretariat in 1949. The UOI is a political advocate for 41 member First Nations across Ontario. The Union of Ontario Indians is the oldest political organization in Ontario and can trace its roots back to the Confederacy of Three Fires, which existed long before European contact.
