Holiday Craft Season Well Underway

The parking lot at the Davedi club on Airport Road never emptied out this past weekend as the Ladies Auxiliary hosted their 18th annual craft show.

Area artisans from North Bay, Callander, Corbeil, Powassan, Sundridge, Sturgeon Falls and Temagami had a variety of goods for sale including candles, soaps, willow furniture, stained glass and pet treats.

Lena Fedeli said that with no admission fee she is not exactly sure the true number of people who attended the event but says sales at the Penny Sale table put them well over 1,000 people.

“They were back to back.”

“Our numbers have increased substantially over the 18 years,” she says.

Fedeli credits the volunteers and their dedication for the success of the event.

“Louise does a fabulous job of getting this together. The volunteers, they’re always there with their heart,” she says.

“And the only thing they get is lunch.”

Fedeli said a core group of over 50 volunteers worked on decorations and set up all day Friday but it takes at least six months to put it all together.

The money raised from the craft sale, tea room and penny sale will be donated to the club’s charities of choice as well as a portion will be applied to the planned storage expansion.
