UPDATE: Names released (Highway 17 West closed by double fatality)

Update 11 a.m. Thursday:

On November 8, at noon officers from the Sudbury Detachment of the OPP, Sudbury Fire Department and the Sudbury-Manitoulin District Emergency Medical Services, responded to a motor vehicle collision on Highway 17, at Middle Lake Rd., Sudbury.

The investigation has revealed that a westbound motor vehicle driven by Guy Forget, 63, from French River, Ontario crossed the centre line and struck an eastbound pick-up truck driven by Barry Brechin, 70, from Bruce Mines, Ontario. Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene.

A 55 year old female passenger in the pick-up truck remains in hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The Highway was re-opened at 5:30 p.m. last night. The Technical Collision Investigators continue to investigate.

At noon today, a motor vehicle collision on Highway 17, at Middle Lake Rd., Sudbury resulted in fatalities.

Police say as a result of the collision, two persons were confirmed dead at the scene.

One other person was rushed to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The OPP have two Technical Collision Investigators on the scene and Highway 17 remains closed between Long Lake road and Southview Drive until the investigation is complete.

Officers from the Sudbury Detachment OPP, the Sudbury Fire Department, and the Sudbury-Manitoulin District Emergency Medical Services responded.

The names of the deceased subjects are not being released at this time pending the notification of next of kin.

No other details on the cause of the accident were released.
