Highway 17 Closed For Eight Hours

Head-On Collision East of Bonfield (North Bay, ON) – OPP North Bay is continuing their investigation into a two (2) vehicle head-on collision that took place on Highway 17 at Line 3 Road, Bonfield Township at approximately 8:00 p.m.

(North Bay, ON) – OPP North Bay is continuing their investigation into a two (2) vehicle head-on collision that took place on Highway 17 at Line 3 Road, Bonfield Township at approximately 8:00 p.m. Sunday December 18th, 2005.
59 year old Ronald Gillis of Rutherglen, Ontario was sent to North Bay General Hospital via ambulance with undetermined injuries. Bonfield Township Volunteer Fire Department utilized the Jaws of Life on Gillis’s vehicle to free him from the wreckage. Gillis was driving a Green Chev pick-up truck westbound on Highway 17 and was attempting to make a right turn on to Line 3 Road. 54 year old David Simpson of Seeley’s Bay, Ontario was driving a blue International Tractor-Trailer eastbound and collided head-on into the pick-up truck. Simpson was treated and released from North Bay General Hospital with minor injuries. There were no passengers in either vehicle.
Highway 17 was closed for approximately eight (8) hours as police re-routed traffic via Highway 531 to Development Road, Bonfield to Rutherglen . A technical traffic investigator from the OPP North East Region assisted North Bay OPP with the investigation.
