The King and Southwind families were all smiles Sunday as they moved one step closer to being in their new homes with the dedication of Habitat for Humanity's second build.

The folks at the North Bay and Blue Sky Region Habitat for Humanity chapter marked another milestone Sunday as they Dedicated the new build on Dane Avenue in honour of founding member and tireless volunteer David Scott Hughes.

Construction of the Dane Avenue homes began with the purchase of the property at fair market value and shortly thereafter the ground breaking ceremony in June 2009.

Under the supervision of skilled crew chiefs and tradesman the The King family of seven (mom, dad and five children) and the Southwind family of seven (mom, dad and five children) and countless hardworking volunteers have poured their blood, sweat and even tears into build and with the dedication the families moved one step closer to home ownership.

Kathy King told BayToday back in June that owning her own home was just a dream and it has changed her life forever noting that without Habitat for Humanity securing a mortgage would not have been possible.

Both units of the semi-detached home will feature five bedrooms with two bathrooms in each unit.

Mayor Vic Fedeli, HFH Founding member Ellen 'Pop Can Ellie' Faulkner, as well as many volunteers and generous contributors who donated their time, skills, building materials and financial support to the build were all on hand to have a tour and congratulate the new homeowners.

Although the homes are not finished, officials say they aim to have the families in by the New Year as they are actively seeking new property to start the 2010 build.

Applications to be the next HFH family are available on the HFH website.
