The Prom is usually a very memorable and special event for teenagers.

So when Odyssee teacher Sylvie Vannier found out that students from the community of Hall Beach, Nunavut aren’t having a Prom because they can’t afford dresses and suits for their special day, she decided to see if she can help change that.

Vannier found out about the situation through a Teacher message board.

“A teacher from Nunavut, who is a young teacher and graduate of Nipissing University, posted on Facebook on a Nipissing Teacher forum. I sent her a personal message and got the ball rolling,” said Vannier.

“Several people have messaged me but now it's to find a way to get it to Nunavut. I'm working on that.”

Vannier is collecting dresses, suits, ties, shirts or shoes for teens 15-19 - any size.

She’s asking anyone wishing to donate to drop off the Prom attire at Ecole secondaire Odyssee during school hours.

Vannier hopes to get the fancy duds up to Nunavut in time for a June 3rd Prom celebration but she is still working on a way to get the clothes up there in time.
