Environment Canada says this is the first heat event of the season for North Bay.

At 2:57 p.m. on Monday, Environment Canada issued a Heat Warning, in effect for:

  • North Bay - Powassan - Mattawa
  • West Nipissing - French River

Daytime temperatures reaching 30C, combined with overnight lows near 18C are expected for the next two days.

A two-day heat event is forecast for Tuesday through Wednesday. This is the first heat event of the season for North Bay and the area.

High temperatures on both Tuesday and Wednesday will get close to the 30C mark. Low temperatures on Tuesday night in the upper teens will provide little relief from the heat. Cooler air is expected to arrive Wednesday night.

Hot and humid air can also bring deteriorating air quality and can result in the Air Quality Health Index approaching the high-risk category.

Watch for the effects of heat illness: swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heatstroke, and the worsening of some health conditions.

Drink plenty of water even before you feel thirsty and stay in a cool place.

Check on older family, friends, and neighbours. Make sure they are cool and are drinking water

Reduce your heat risk. Schedule outdoor activities during the coolest parts of the day.

Never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle.
