Environment Canada has sent out a heat warning for Greater Sudbury in the West to North Bay in the East, and New Liskeard in the North.

High temperatures and humidity are expected this weekend with humidex values hitting as high as 36.

A hot and humid air mass is forecast to move into the area Saturday and remain in place through at least Sunday night. Afternoon high temperatures are expected to rise to near 30 degrees with humidex values rising to the mid-30s.

Overnight lows will remain in the upper teens both Saturday and Sunday night providing little relief from the heat.

A cold front is forecast to usher in cooler temperatures and lower humidity to the Timmins and Kapuskasing areas Monday morning and then the North Bay and Sudbury areas by Monday evening.

The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.

Never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle.

Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.
