The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit (Health Unit) is waiting for confirmation on the local distribution of a COVID-19 vaccine.

The province is currently in phase one of the Government of Ontario’s three-phase vaccine distribution implementation plan, which was launched in December. This means that when the Health Unit receives the COVID-19 vaccine the priority will be given to residents, staff, and essential caregivers of long-term care homes, retirement homes, and other congregate care settings for seniors.

"The Health Unit has started to plan for the roll-out of the vaccine throughout each of the three phases, as we want to ensure that once we are provided the COVID-19 vaccine that we are able to start immunizations as soon as possible," a Tuesday release stated.

Health Unit officials say the public will be informed once they have additional information about the local availability of the COVID-19 vaccine.

"In the meantime, we recommend that individuals visit the Government of Ontario’s website for more information on their plan and information on vaccine safety," the release continued.
