More than 500 graduating high school students will get a first glimpse of their new academic life at Nipissing University during the next week-and-a-half as the university rolls out the red carpet during New Student Orientation (NSO).

NSO provides incoming first-year students the opportunity to tour the campus, meet with faculty, staff and current students, and choose courses.

Nipissing expects roughly 1,400 people, mostly families, will be on campus over the course of NSO, which takes place July 4, 6, 10, 12 and 14, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.

Each day is scheduled to accommodate different degree groupings, so that information about certain degree programs can be directed specifically to interested students. As well, the smaller groupings allow students to meet the individuals who will be sitting beside them in classes come September.

Students attending the sessions will also be able to meet personally with faculty while registering for courses. That accessibility, allowing students to talk to their professors one-on-one, is a key component of the orientation sessions as well as the larger Nipissing degree experience.

Visitors will also get a tour of the campus and an introduction to the student services department and the finance department. As well, information sessions will be held for parents and incoming students so that university staff and current students can answer any questions about the school and what to expect in first year.
