Head-On Collision West of North Bay

North Bay OPP continue their investigation into a personal injury head-on collision that took place last evening (Wednesday October 4th 2006) on Highway 17, West Nipissing Township west of North Bay, Ontario.

Shortly before 9:00 p.m. Wednesday October 4th, 2006, 44 year old Rita Fournier of Sturgeon Falls, Ontario was driving a white 1994 Pontiac Bonneville westbound on Highway 17. Her vehicle collided head-on with an eastbound red 2002 Saturn driven by 31 year old Jerald Nicholls of Nipissing, Ontario. Nicholls and his female passenger were rushed via ambulance to North Bay General Hospital with serious injuries. Fournier was also rushed to North Bay General Hospital with minor injuries.

West Nipissing Fire Department responded to the collision. Anishinabek Police Service and West Nipissing Police Service also responded and were extremely helpful, as they assisted North Bay OPP investigators at the scene.

Highway 17 was closed for over three (3) hours as police conducted their investigation.
