Going To The Dogs

Heading into Saturday’s Paws-a-thon fundraising event, the North Bay Humane Society received a shot in the arm from their friends at Carstar Quality Collision Service.

The collision centre on Commerce Court hosted their annual fundraising barbecue and car wash that went to the dogs.

“Carstar does it nation-wide this is their third year, so it’s Canada wide,” says Darlene MacDonald, Office Manager.

“Carstar's charity of choice is Cystic Fibrosis, so locally we are allowed to keep 50 per cent for a local charity. So we chose the North Bay Humane Society in memory of Rob Billingsley, who was an insurance partner and friend that passed away last year.”

With cars lined up around the block all waiting for their chance to support the charity and have a true professional wash, gave event organisers hope that they would push through their goal of 300 vehicles by the end of the day.

The barbecue was not an effort put on by the Carstar crew alone explained MacDonald, she said industry partners also played a huge role in making the day success.

"Enterprise Car Rental was here and did the barbecue, Discount Car Rental is putting a treat and everybody's car, Standard Auto Glass to the coffee and doughnuts and are also doing windshield and ship repair for a minimum donation of $10."

MacDonald said both charities are important and the goal for the day was $2,800.

"We're hoping to double what we did last year, we raised to $1,400 last year, so I was that we double it with the dunk tank and the silent auction. I think were well on our way."

The Humane Society Paws-A-Thon takes place at Lee Park Saturday with registration at 9 a.m. and the walk starting at 10 a.m.
