City police are warning about abuse on social media sites.
A complete stranger tries to “friend” you on Facebook. Your curiosity gets the better of you and you accept the friend request. Your new “friend” then invites you to chat on Skype. Next thing you know, your online chat turns sexual and your new “friend” now has a sexually explicit video recording of you. Your “friend” then threatens to share the video to your network of friends, family and/or colleagues and/or threatens to publically share the video on YouTube, if you don’t comply with a demand to send money.
The North Bay Police Service advises you to be vigilant when accepting friend requests on Facebook from complete strangers. If you do fall victim to blackmail, do not send money. Contact police to report the incident.
Skype instructions - How to block and report abusive behaviour
If you are the victim of abusive behaviour (threats, blackmail and/or harassment) on Skype from another Skype user, follow these steps:
1. Block the user by right-clicking on the contact name and clicking Block this person.
2. Tick the box for Report abuse.
3. Tick the box for Remove from your Contact list.
4. Click the Block button.

3.Enter the name or email address of the person you want to block and click Block.
4.If you entered a name, select the specific person you want to block from the list that appears.
If you can't find someone using this method, try going to the person's profile and selecting Block from the menu on their cover photo.
