The City of North Bay is improving services in the Gertrude Street area with the installation of a new pumping station and sanitary sewer beginning this spring.
Tenders have been issued for the project, with construction anticipated to start in mid-May.
The work will involve the construction of a new triplex sewage pumping station in the parking lot of West Ferris Arena to replace the existing system at Knox Court. A 375 millimeter sanitary sewer will be installed from Knox Court to the sewage pumping station, along with a 250 mm forcemain that will connect a previously installed forcemain to the pumping station.
Fewer back-ups from flooding during spring run-off and large storms are expected as a result of the new infrastructure.
The entire project is estimated to be completed by the end of December including road restoration, new curb and gutter, road base materials and paving.
Traffic delays and detours are anticipated at various times over the construction period but he awarded General Contractor will be required to maintain access to home properties; assist with garbage collection, and limit the extent of noise and other inconveniences during construction.
This project will be managed by City of North Bay staff and a City Inspector will be on site continuously to liaise with the public and respond to any questions or concerns that may arise.
Once a Contractor has been awarded the project this spring, their schedule of work will be provided to the public in a separate notice.
